hmm. i mostly agree with the premises, and i’m all for better web hosting options, but i don’t quite follow the conclusion. what class of user “doesn’t have much technical knowledge,” but still has a (valid!) reason to need “Rails, node.js, or even Python, with a Postgres or NoSQL backend?” apart from a specific host’s constraints, of course, which i think you’re explicitly _not_ talking about. i can’t picture who that would be.

it sounds like you want better self-hosted options for non-technical people, which i can definitely get behind. maybe you’d advocate for more good self-hosted options _regardless_ of their underlying stack, as opposed to on a specific set of stacks? it’s a newer space, so the underlying tech will naturally be more modern as a result, as you mentioned with personal cloud projects.
