yes! reminds me of https://snarfed.org/2011-12-31_unhosted_decoupling_web_apps_from_storage_providers. have you heard of them? both the Unhosted umbrella movement and especially the remoteStorage project, which sounds very similar to what you’re describing, but a bit higher level and more web app friendly.

I hadn’t heard of Unhosted or remoteStorage before, but you’re right that they are trying to solve the same problem that I describe in my post. I think they fall in a similar category to Solid as far as effort-to-adopt, but I still hope that one of these technologies catches on. I can’t help but think that data ownership + some type of system-interoperability-by-default could be great if they get enough adoption.
