git pull: merge vs rebase | nelsonslog

my thoughts as I read this: “…yeah…yeah…see, that’s why I use git pull –rebase too…fast forward is safer? hmm…I should do another deep dive and grok this…change my configs and retrain my muscle memory…but honestly I’d rather stick a rusty fork in my eye…next post, newsblur.”

fuck git indeed. fuck it right in the ear. or maybe more appropriately, fuck our people for using it for everything just because it works for an extreme celebrity outlier like the Linux kernel. what a monstrous example of prioritizing abstraction, over-engineering, and edge cases over pragmatism and common sense.

awesome! oh man, love it, such a good idea. well done. and agreed, i’d definitely love to see it for FB etc too. (i obviously have a bridge to sell you if you don’t want to handle each API, but you knew that. :P)

i also like that you didn’t fall into the trap of generating the file in the background, and handling the persistence and edge cases and progress UI etc that you’d need for that. i know it sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it’s not, promise.

congrats!
