It’s late notice, but we’re going to see Tim O’Reilly speak at Long Now tonight, and we have a couple extra tickets. The talk is titled Birth of the Global Mind, and it’s at 7:30 at the Cowell Theater at Fort Mason. Ping me if you’re interested!
I’ve been a Long Now Foundation member for a few years now, and I really enjoy being part of their community. They think about what it means to take the very long view – 10,000 years! – and then advocate for and work on projects for that horizon. I tend toward the long view myself, but they take it to an extreme, and I love watching the shift in perspective they demand.
See you there!

how was it? Wish we could have joined you! via Google+
it was good! pretty high level and meta, more the kernel of an idea than a fleshed out thesis, but tim o'reilly is great, so it was definitely worthwhile.
glad to hear you're interested! the next one is on 10/8, steven pinker on how violence has steadily declined over history, both ancient and recent. should be good. http://longnow.org/seminars/02012/oct/08/decline-violence/

I saw him do the same topic at Google a couple months ago, so I'll pass on this one. Are you members? I used to go to many of the Long Now sessions. via Google+
