@snarfed.org Any idea how your implementation compares to the equivalent in RSS-Bridge (http://ttrss-vm.b-ark.ca/rss-bridge/)?
The key difference is probably the browser extension approach. Looks like RSS-Bridge does traditional server-side scraping, which Instagram is pretty good at blocking these days. Evidently that’s hitting them hard. Also, from that issue: “First of all, I want to clarify, that there is no maintainer of InstagramBridge.” 🥺
God bless you Ryan Barrett!
I use RSS Bridge but since Instagram has banned my host’s entire IP range, it doesn’t work for me. Is there any chance that Instagram/Facebook will find a way to block this approach? Also, if this depends on the add-on, does that mean that the feed only updates when the browser is open?
@poorchop yes and yes. Bot/scraping detection is an arms race, and Meta has vastly more resources than me, so I have no illusion that this approach is magically safer. It’s different and less common though, which is something. And yes, your feed will only update while your browser is open and the extension is running.
