  1. Nice, useful table. Something about how open the protocols are, availability of reference implementations, single vs multivendor support, open vs closed source etc.

  2. Thanks! And good ideas! Hopefully the governance row speaks to “how open,” and otherwise they’re all similar on many of those fronts – all open source, all have multiple implementations – but you’re right that only some have corporate backers or reference implementations.

  3. @snarfed.org ActivityPub is push + pull. Every AP server also works as a client, for example when it discovers activity.actor or object.inReplyTo. Pulling collections is less common, but even Mastodon does that occasionally

  4. True! AP delivery is push, it’s the primary way content travels, but it’s definitely not the only way. This format is heavily oversimplified, makes it hard to capture nuance like that, but you’re absolutely right.

  5. Funny thing about the high number of servers (hubs) for Farcaster is that the majority of people running them think they will get some kind of reward for doing so, even though the team has explicitly said there isn’t one

  6. great table, maybe add lens protocol? also for mau on fc you have to adjust for bot/human traffic, it’s not even close to 169k right now
